Symptoms
SLES 12 SP2 backups fail with message:

Wed Mar 01 14:01:30 2017 SNBSVH_990E APPH backup request failed with exception: An error occurred in BACKUP message processing. (rc = 21001).
Resolution
This behavior will be addressed in a DPX Maintenance Update. However, a complete Maintenance Update is not available at this time. Contact Catalogic Software Data Protection Technical Support for obtaining the required update referencing Issue ID DPC-28481
