Symptoms

The job report displays the following error (file level backup with "Take Snapshot" option set):

6/8/2017 1:02:54 pm SNBJH_3053E *** File browser on node NODE_NAME returned error 1009 ***
6/8/2017 1:02:54 pm SNBJH_3456E *** Restarting definition for node NODE_NAME, disk S: without a file list ***

The Windows Event viewer log on the client server displays the following volsnap error message:
Error    6/8/2017 13:01    volsnap    36    None    The shadow copies of volume S: were aborted because the shadow copy storage could not grow due to a user imposed limit.

Resolution

This particular volsnap error means that the current limit imposed is limiting the shadow copy from growing any larger; therefore it is causing the shadow copy to dismount and cause the backup to fail.
To resolve this error, expand the size of the shadow copies limit by performing the following steps:

On the server, go to Computer Management > Disk Management > right click > All Tasks > Configure Shadow Copies > Select S: > Select settings.
