Summary

An Open Storage Server restore fails with a "peer module closed connection" error when a subset of files on the volume are selected.

Symptoms

An "OSS" block level restore jobs fails with a "peer module closed connection" error when a subset of files on the volume are selected.  An example of the message sequence is:

Task 1 NDMP_LOG: id(1,928), type(NDMP_LOG_NORMAL), text(Restore started: source:sys:[OSS2016.csse.catalogic.us] path:[F:/[xW2K8R2FS-6]W2K8R2FS@{FC2BAA72}] secsnapname:[SSSV_xW2K8R2FS-6/{BEX-463A-59E24F691368}] destination:path:[C_.C_.0.r2017-10-14])
Task 1 NDMP_LOG: id(1,928), type(NDMP_LOG_NORMAL), text(By default attempting iSCSI restore...)
Task 1 NDMP_LOG: id(1,928), type(NDMP_LOG_NORMAL), text(Done parsing [C_.C_.0.r2017-10-14] for [2] restore records. )
Task 1 NDMP_LOG: id(1,928), type(NDMP_LOG_NORMAL), text(sComm.connect OTHER []/[OSS2016.csse.catalogic.us]:[GetLastError(0):The operation completed successfully.  ]. )
Task 1 failed. Reason(NDMPSessionException(0, recoverBackup exception: cm_recv_rec failed, localPort (63119), peer (<IP-address-of-OSS>:51952), rc (12004), description (cm_recv_rec reported 0-len read: peer module closed connection.), peerstring (ssndmpc 2.2/4.5 win-x64 17:40:11 Oct 12 2017)))

This problem can occur when the "Logical Node Name" of the OSS in Configure Enterprise begins with one of the letter "T", "O", "D" or "C".

Resolution

This behavior has been addressed in a DPX Maintenance Update. The update can be automatically installed via the DPX Software Update System user interface or can be manually downloaded from the Catalogic Software Online Support site. Check the Software Update Release Notes for your DPX release referencing Issue ID DPSUST-4020, available within the following product patches:

  • DPX 4.5.1 patch 0116
