Resolution
Resolved by VMware, root cause was a corrupt VM config. Repair steps were as follows:1. For safety, cloned the VM
2. Snapshotted the VM for double assurance
3. Created new VM without disks that was otherwise identical to original VM
4. Attached disks from original VM to new VM.
5. Powered up and tested VM functionality.
6. Created new backup job and ran successfully.
