Summary

A backup job fails with return code 8 (RC=8 in the Job Control screen). The backup references involve a mapped/mounted drive.

Symptoms

Assuming that no other tasks were part of this backup job, the following job log message appears:

<<< Warning: No tasks started in job 1066761212

However, if there were other tasks in this job, the message may not appear when the mapped drive backup fails, because the other selected data for the job has been backed up.

Resolution

A backup job error code of 8 indicates that the backup job failed because there was no data to backup. One common reason for this error is when the backup involves the contents of a mapped drive.

By default, DPX does not back up the contents of mapped drives and NFS mounts. Use the Skip NFS Volumes option in the Backup Source Options dialog to change the setting. Select from the drop-down list:

  • Yes - Does not back up the contents of mapped drives and NFS mounts.
  • No - Backs up the contents of mapped drives and NFS mounts.
