Summary

When trying to map a drive using the iSCSI initiator in the SnapVault Restore screen, a prompt indicates that the mapping operation has failed.

Symptoms

The prompt contains a message similar to the following:

Get failed for bex://filesystem/97/DefaultGroup/CVG-820-1?type=nibbler/192.168.1.16?type=SV SHOST/vol/vol4/[Test6]BINNING-LXP@A6BD8930A57611D8AF7B806D6172696F?type=SVSD IR/0000004000002ab0000000541dad408670096160000000000000000000000000000000000 000000000000000000000000000000000000000000?type=SNAPID/vol/vol4?type=disk/CV G-W2K3-1?type=DESTNODE/M:?type=DESTPATH/ rc=-8. no description

Resolution

  1. The preferred mechanism for unmapping LUNs is to use the Unmap function within the GUI interface.
  2. You may use an alternate mechanism for unmap LUNs on the machine by executing the unmap_X_xxxxxx.bat files from the tmp directory of DPX on the machine to which you are mounting the volumes. You must run these bat files from the DOS command prompt using the following command syntax:

    unmap_X_xxxxxx.bat <user name> <password>

where the user name is commonly the root user on the filer.

  3. If any unaccounted for LUNs are mapped on the filer, remove them with the Network Appliance web browser GUI.
  4. Rescan the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator adapter on the machine to which you are mapping the drive by going to Device Manager, selecting the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator adapter, and choosing Scan for hardware changes.
  5. Clean up unknown, existing iSCSI sessions from the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator GUI in the Windows Control Panel.

After performing these steps, map the drive again using the DPX Instant Availability feature.
