Summary

You can successfully map an Instant Availability snapshot as a drive on a server, but cannot open the drive using Windows Explorer unless you are logged in to the NetApp filer's domain as an administrator.

Symptoms

After mapping an Instant Availability (also called Instant Access or IA) snapshot as a drive on a server, you may want to open the drive in Windows Explorer. However when attempting to open the drive, Windows Explorer displays the below error message claiming that the drive's location is unavailable.

Resolution

This error occurs when either the user lacks the appropriate Windows permissions to explore this drive, or the user is logged into the Windows server that contains the mapped snapshot in a different domain than their NetApp filer.

In order to open the contents of the mapped drive, you must log in as the administrator for the NetApp filer's domain.
