Summary

Under specific circumstances AdvancedClient OSSV backup jobs of APPS and ExpressDR objects may fail to back up all resources in a cluster.

 

Symptoms

In an OSSV cluster backup job, ExpressDR and APPS tasks for a virtual cluster node may fail with RC 16. Other cluster resources and cluster physical objects included in the job may be backed up successfully.

 

Resolution

This situation can occur under the scenarios described below.

Scenario A:

If some cluster resources fail to be backed up during OSSV jobs, the DPX job log may display messages similar to those shown below.

Similar error messages can also appear under other circumstances. In order for this error to pertain to this particular issue, the job log messages must be accompanied by a nibbler.log message on the cluster's physical node hosting the cluster resources. The nibbler.log's message will resemble the following:

Apr 01 16:36:01 2008:3592:ERROR:Failed to open source file [\\71.X.X.X\C$/Program Files/DPX/tmp/bmrinfo-test__ExpressDR_1.0_DR_CV_W2K3-CLUS2/bmr_info.txt]:[GetLastError(5):Access is denied. strerror(2):No such file or directory].

Follow these steps to resolve this issue:

  1. Open Windows Services under Computer Management.
  2. Right-click on DPX Advanced Protection Manager (APM) -> Properties.
  3. Click on the Log On tab.
  4. Select This account and enter the login information for the Domain Administrator account. 
  6. Restart the virtual node's cmagent service.

Scenario B:

If some cluster resources fail to be backed up during OSSV jobs, the DPX job log may display messages similar to those shown below.

Follow these steps to resolve this issue.

  1. Enable File and Print Sharing on all the cluster physical nodes.
  2. Click on Control Panel > Network Connections > <Select the Public Network Interface> > Properties.
  3. Place a checkmark in the "Filer and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" box.
