Summary

If the Lotus Notes/Domino 8 transaction log path is configured to specify a directory path that includes symbolic links, the transaction logs will fail to be backed up.

Symptoms

During transaction log backup jobs, the filename of the transaction log being read is checked against the list of logs waiting to be archived. If the log path refers to a path including a symbolic link, the path will not match and errors will occur. These errors messages may resemble the message shown below:

10.1.101.155 4/2/2008 4:45:35pm SNBDBS3068W BEXLOTUS_W:NSFGetNextLogToArchive() failed:[No transaction log files are waiting to be archived.]

10.1.101.155 4/2/2008 4:45:35pm SNBDBS3069E dm_open_disk_object_lotus:: failed opening file(/mnt/reiser/lotus/logdir/S0000005.TXN):[NSFGetNextLogToArchive() failed:NotesAPI error:No transaction log files are waiting to be archived.]

Resolution

To resolve this issue, use the Lotus Domino Administrator to set the server's transaction log path to refer to the full path of the transaction log directory and restart the Lotus server software.
