Summary

A Windows computer crash or sudden loss of power while booted in safe mode may corrupt subsequent Advanced Recovery incremental backups of local volumes. To resolve this issue, force a base backup.

Resolution

The DPX Change Journal driver tracks block level changes to local disks even when booted in safe mode. If there is a sudden power loss or crash while in safe mode, the DPX Change Journal cannot guarantee the event is identified and handled on the next backup.

To resolve this issue, if a power loss or crash occurs while in safe mode, force a base backup. This assures the integrity of Advanced Recovery SnapVault backups, as it is not handled yet in CJ v4.20 or earlier.

Important: Any power loss or crash that occurs while booted in normal mode is properly identified and handled through subsequent boots in safe mode.

Note: The situation described above only applies to cases when the server is booted in safe mode and apower loss or crash is experienced.
