Summary

When restoring data from archive volsers, first identify the specific volsers required for the restore job. When the archive backup job is not at hand, it can be difficult to identify the correct archive volsers for a restore.

Symptoms

An advanced protection restore job is fully configured, but the restore data was expired from the disk. An archive restore job attempt is made, but the restore job fails because it cannot locate the archive volsers in the library.

Resolution

To identify the archive volsers:

  1. Open the management console, click the Restore tab, click Image, then click Filter Displayed Jobs.
  2. Expand the source to reveal the Advanced volume that stores the backup data.
  3. Click Save Restore Job.
  4. Give the job a temporary name.
  5. Click OK to save the job name, but don't run the job.
  6. Click Preview Restore Job, to reveal the Restore Preview dialog box. A listing of names identifying the restore volsers for this job will display in the Restore Volsers group of the dialog box.
