Summary

NDMP restore fails when restoring files and directories containing special or extended characters.

Symptoms

  • Files or directories with special characters can not be opened or browsed during restore.
  • NDMP Restore fails when selecting directories or files containing special or extended characters.

Resolution

Workaround:

If the primary filer volume does not have UTF-8 enabled, restore a directory above the files or folders you are attempting to restore. Ensure the directory does not contain any special or extended characters.

Fix:

You must enable UTF-8 support on NetApp primary volumes to successfully select and restore files containing special or extended characters in the file or directory name. Only backups run after making this change will be successfully restored.
