Summary

When a SnapVault relationship is stopped by running the snapvault stop command, a temporary snapshot with a name like *-dst.0 is created during the transition. This snapshot is not automatically deleted at the end of the snapvault stop operation. Upgrade your Data ONTAP version and delete these extraneous files to resolve the issue.

Symptoms

When deleting snapvault jobdefinitions, the snapvault stop command is issued to stop the SnapVault relation. According to NetApp Data ONTAP bug 87808:

"When a snapvault relationship is stopped by running the "snapvault stop"
command, a temporary snapshot with a name like *-dst.0 is created during the
transition. This snapshot is not automatically deleted at the end of "snapvault
stop" operation."

Resolution

  1. Upgrade your Data ONTAP version as explained in:
    support.netapp.com/NOW/cgi-bin/bol?Type=Detail&Display=87808
  2. According to the Data ONTAP BUG 87808, the *-dst.0 snapshots can safely be removed to free up space in the volume.

Run the snap list command on a storage system to show snapshots that end with *-dst.0. These snapshots consume a large amount of space. You can also use the Oncommand System Manager to view these snapshots.
