Summary
When running an on-demand verification of a windows mode C: drive, the following error is displayed: Message: 1188: verify_lun: Chkdsk reported errors in folders not to be protected. Please refer to KB 46443 The condition is related to the Microsoft Windows C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution folder. The on-demand verification reports errors, and Window's chkdsk may return errors on the source volume.
Symptoms
Microsoft Windows Update uses the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\ folder for Auto Update. All files contained within this folder are marked as files that should not be included during backup. File consistency within the resulting snapshot is not guaranteed for these listed files. Errors reported by chkdsk have been observed that are related to these inconsistencies. These errors can usually be ignored and corrected by chkdsk.

Resolution
The verify job fails, but displays an appropriate warning message pointing to the KB article explaining the reason:
Message: 1188: verify_lun: Chkdsk reported errors in folders not to be protected. Please refer to KB 46443.
The recovery point is still viable for BMR and other types of block-level restores; however, recovered systems may experience similar chkdsk error behavior.
The source machine can be corrected by running a chkdsk repair on the affected volume.
It is recommended to correct the backup by running a new base backup for the affected volume (typically C:). Consult the section Forcing a Base Backup in the backup chapter of the DPX User's Guide. Using the bexsnapmgr utility is the preferred method to force a new base backup.
