Summary
SMTAPE restore to the secondary filer fails with error, SMTAPE: Receiving corrupt stream header. Aborting. To resolve this issue, according to the NetApp documentation, an SMTAPE restore from a later Data ONTAP version is not possible to an earlier Data ONTAP version.

The NDMP SMTAPE restore fails with the following errors:

Resolution
The Data ONTAP version of the primary node/filer where the backup data belongs to is later than the Data ONTAP version of the destination filer. For example:
NetApp version (Primary): 8.1.2 p3
NetApp version (Secondary): 7.3.1.1
According to the NetApp documentation, an SMTAPE restore from a later Data ONTAP version is not possible to an earlier Data ONTAP version. However, the reverse is possible.
