Summary



UEFI support (backup and recovery) is new with DPX 4.2. When attempting to virtualize a UEFI based server, the new virtual instance will not boot.

Symptoms



The Virtualized UEFI server will not boot.

This is related to the the IEFI ISO boot image being attached to the virtual machine.



Resolution



After the restore completes, make sure that the virtual machine is powered down.

Once powered down, edit the VM configuration to remove the attached UEFI ISO image, power the VM up and reboot the VM again the bring windows up normally.

 

Step-by-step procedure:

  1. Powered down the VM
  2. Right click on the VM and select "Edit Settings".
  3. Click CD/DVD drive and you will see "Datastore ISO File" is selected
  4. De-select "Datastore ISO File", select "Client Device"
  5. Power up the VM and view the VM console
  6. If machine boots into Boot Manager, reboot machine one more time.
  7. When machine comes back it may enter the "Windows Error Recovery" screen. If so, continue with "Start Windows Normally"
