When source and destination disks are the same size, DPX Windows BMR indicates that the destination disk is smaller and does not allow you to drag and drop the source partitions to the destination machine. There are three ways to work around this issue.

Symptoms

Create a disk on a VM, the disk is the same size as the source, and use the DPX Windows BMR ISO for BMR restore. When you navigate to the Disk Mapping pane for a BMR restore, BMR detects the destination disk as smaller than the source disk, and does not allow you to drag and drop the partition(s) to the destination machine. There is no way to drop the selected row.

Resolution

Use one of the following methods to enable the restore to complete successfully:

  • Right-click the backup volume and shrink the partition(s)

  • If the destination disk is on a VM, increase the disk size.

  • Create partitions manually, then drag and drop each partition.
