Summary

You are unable to start DPX because of a Java Web Start file association problem. To resolve this issue, change the program that opens the .jnlp file to javaws.exe.

Symptoms

When you start DPX, you receive a prompt asking whether to download, save, and not run a .jnlp file.

Resolution

Cause:

The default start program for .jnlp changed from javaws.exe to another program.

Action:

If you see this prompt, perform the following steps to change the program that opens the .jnlp file to javaws.exe using Notepad or another program that you are familiar with:

  1. Click Cancel to remove the prompt.
  2. From Microsoft Internet Explorer, click Tools > Internet Options > Programs.
  3. Under the Internet Programs section, select Set Programs.
  4. If the Default Programs window displays, click Associate a file type or protocol with a program. The Set Associations window displays.
  5. Scroll to .jnlp, and in the Current Default column, verify that the file type of .jnlp is opened by the Java Web Start Executable program and not by Notepad or WordPad.
  6. Click Change program. The Open With window displays.
  7. Click to select Java Web Start Launcher as the program that you want to open the .jnlp file and click OK.
  8. Close the Internet Options window and return to where you first attempted to run the .jnlp file, and run the file again.
