Summary

The DPX management console does not open through the Java Web Start interface on Internet Explorer on some Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2 machines. To resolve this issue, add the correct DPX management console URL to the Internet Explorer Trusted Sites list.

Symptoms

When launching the DPX management console via Java Web Start, on Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 machines using Internet Explorer 10 or 11, the DPX management console does not open.

A security prompt may display, asking to add the URL to the Trusted Sites list. The URL text box may be pre-populated by Internet Explore in the following format:

file:///C:/Users/Administrator/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/Temporary%20Internet%20Files/Content.IE5/N2GMZ68N/dpx.jnlp.

Attempting to add the URL to the Trusted Sites list causes the following error:

"You have entered an invalid wildcard sequence."

Resolution

Follow the instructions on the security prompt to add the DPX management console URL to the Trusted Sites list. If necessary, obtain the correct URL from the Internet Explore address bar to ensure that the URL is in the correct format. Do not use the file path format; use the URL format as presented in the following example:
