Summary

The following procedure documents how to apply and save DNS changes to the ECX virtual appliance. Changes must be made through the vSphere client while the virtual appliance is powered off. When the virtual appliance is powered back on, confirm the DNS server address has been changed through the ECX web-based management console.

Symptoms

When entering DNS changes to the ECX virtual appliance through the management console, the changes appear to be saved but are lost upon reboot of the appliance. Once rebooted, the previously entered DNS server information displays.

Resolution

  1. Power off the ECX appliance.
  2. In the vSphere client, select the ECX virtual machine and click Edit Settings, then navigate to Options > vApp Options > Properties.
  3. Enter a new DNS server address, then click OK.
  4. Power on the ECX appliance.
  5. Access the web-based management console through the following URL: https://<HOSTNAME>:5480/.
  6. Navigate to Network > Address and confirm that the Preferred DNS Server has been changed to the DNS server address entered in Step 3.
