Summary
Restoring mirrored dynamic disks to an alternate location appear as foreign disks with disk management.
Symptoms
After completing restore of 2 mirrored Dynamic Disks to an alternate location, you will see in Disk Management that they are displayed as Foreign disks with an exclamation point assigned.
Resolution
This is normal behavior when restoring these types of disks to another server. To bring these disks back online so you can retrieve your data please proceed with the following steps.
The first step is to import the foreign disks. Right click on one of the foreign disks and select Import Foreign Disks.
In the next screen select OK.
Select OK again.
This starts the resyncing process.
Once the resync process is completed, you will see that the disks are in a healthy state and a drive letter is assigned. You are now able to retrieve your data.
