Summary

After a full virtualization restore is performed, the restored VM fails to start.

Symptoms

A full virtualization (FV) is performed, and the virtual machine File Alignment Option is set to “retain File system alignment of original source machine." The process appears to succeed.  But when you start the restored VM, the VM fails.

Resolution

It is possible that the iSCSI controller type setting was not retained when the VM was created.  For example, the iSCSI controller type setting on the source machine may have been “LSI logic SAS,” while the setting on the restored machine might be “LSI Logic Parallel.”  The workaround for this problem is to change the iSCSI Controller type on the restored VM to that of the original source machine.  The restored VM will then behave as expected.
