Summary

When performing a backup to disk, the backup generates a series of messages indicating PLEASE MOUNT TAPE" and then errors out. This is visible from within the DPX job log and from within the Job monitor screen. "

Symptoms

This problem originates from an inability to find or use a virtual tape in the disk directory configured with the disk device. Messages similar to the following will be generated:

Attempting mount for node(100.100.100.100) drive(sSYRA001) volser(DSK276)

Resolution

To resolve the problem, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that the directory exists on the disk directory controller node.
  2. Check available disk space on the partition where the disk directory resides. DPX may not have enough space to create the virtual tape in the disk directory.
  3. Verify that the user the cmagent service/process is running has permissions to create files (a virtual tape) in the disk directory.
  4. Make sure that you are not using the passthrough tape device driver for DPX.
