Resolution



There is typically a hostname resolution problem:

  • Make sure that the machines involved in the backup (master server, device server, client, and GUI), can ping each other by hostname.
  • Check DNS/WINS for fully qualified/short name errors for the hostnames.
  • Add entries in the local hosts file on the servers as a troubleshooting step.
  • Scan the machines into the Backup Express enterprise by IP address rather than hostname.
  • If you are using both WINS and DNS for name resolution of the machine, check for incompatibility between WINS and DNS.
