For Oracle backups using RMAN, various job settings including job name, device clusters, and media pools are defined in a configuration file. The default file, called sbt11cfg.bex, is in the DPX directory. In some cases, you may need to have separate configurations for different jobs. To do this, you must use individual configuration files for jobs that need different settings. Each configuration file could reflect different media pools and devices, for example.
Oracle backups and restores are run by scripts. To specify a non-default configuration file for a job, the script can include the environment variable SSOBEX_CONFIG_FILE. This variable should be set near the start of the RMAN script, for example:
exportSSOBEX_CONFIG_FILE="/opt/BackEx/sbt11cfg-job1.bex"
This option is necessary to allow multiple instances of Oracle to use different configurations.
