This article provides suggestions for troubleshooting error return code 1201 (SYNC_FAIL).

Symptoms



A backup completes a task, but cataloging fails:

SYNC_FAIL: status = -1, error number = 1201

 



Resolution



During the backup process, information about the backed up files is sent to the master server and into the catalog. When the task is completed, this data is sorted using the SyncSort utility. Error code 1201 indicates that the sort utility encountered a disk full message.

This usually indicates that the volume or partition on which DPX is installed is full or became full during the backup process. If the master server is set up to use disk quotas, it also could indicate that the user DPX runs as has hit its allocated limit.
