You can set up NDMP filer and tape library to add NDMP nodes in Enterprises of Catalogic DPX. This article specifically discusses the procedures with NetApp 7-Mode. Review the example walkthrough so that you can add your NDMP nodes in a similar way.

In this example, assume that you are using the NetApp filer called "netx720". You may need to adjust the user, password, and device IDs if this is not a NetApp filer. For more details about the filer, see the vendor's product documents.

Getting node configuration information

You must be able to see the file handle used to communicate with the tape drives and the jukebox as the backup target devices. For example, you can use the sysconfig -m command in the NetApp filer to see the node configuration information for the tape library:

netx720> sysconfig -m

Typical output is structured as shown:

Medium changer (0b.0) STK L20
mc0 - medium changer device

Use the sysconfig -t command to see the device and configuration information for each tape drive:

netx720> sysconfig -t

Typical output is structured as shown:

Tape drive (0b.1) Quantum DLT8000
rst0l - rewind device, format is: 85937 bpi 35 GB
nrst0l - no rewind device, format is: 85937 bpi 35 GB
urst0l - unload/reload device, format is: 85937 bpi 35 GB
rst0m - rewind device, format is: 85937 bpi 70 GB (w/comp)
nrst0m - no rewind device, format is: 85937 bpi 70 GB (w/comp)
urst0m - unload/reload device, format is: 85937 bpi 70 GB (w/comp)
rst0h - rewind device, format is: 98250 bpi 40 GB
nrst0h - no rewind device, format is: 98250 bpi 40 GB
urst0h - unload/reload device, format is: 98250 bpi 40 GB
rst0a - rewind device, format is: 98250 bpi 80 GB (w/comp)
nrst0a - no rewind device, format is: 98250 bpi 80 GB (w/comp)

Exmaple walkthrough: adding an NDMP node to Enterprise

Review the following example walkthrough about adding the NDMP node to the Enterprise:

  1. Open the Java-based DPX Management Interface and log in to it.

  2. Open the Configure tab and go to Enterprise from the task pane.

  3. Create a new group named "NDMP".

  4. Add a new node named "netx720" and set the Access Method to NDMP.

  5. Click Add and the node window prompts you for more information. Enter the following:

    • Client node: The master server or some server configured to be an advanced device server, as shown in Step 1.

    • Port: 10000

    • User: root

    • Password: Your filer's super user or root password.

After adding these required fields, click Test.

  6. Add a tape library and tape devices to the filer; that is, open Devices in the task pane and create a new Robotic Device as shown in the following example:
