Summary

An NDMP smtape type backup job leaves a snapshot. To resolve this issue, remove the snapshot manually or set DPX to remove it automatically.

Symptoms

An NDMP smtape type backup leaves a snapshot similar in name to:

snapmirror_tape_12_28_06_16:15:56

Resolution

Important: Although the images in this article depict a specific version of the BEX/NSB management console, their functionality is applicable to all currently supported versions.

If a backup of the storage system volume is not in process, it is safe to remove the snapshot manually.

To set up DPX so that it deletes the snapshot automatically after the backup completes, do the following:

  1. Select Backup > NDMP and open the backup job.

  2. Click Set Source Options. The Set Job Source Options dialog box displays.

  3. In Additional NDMP Environment, enter:

    SMTAPE_DELETE_SNAPSHOT=Y

  4. Click OK to close the Set Job Source Options dialog box.

  5. Save the NDMP smtape type backup job.

When the next NDMP smtape type backup job runs, the snapmirror_tape snapshot is created. When the backup job completes, the snapshot is deleted automatically.
