Summary

When you request a library operation, error 7144 (ERR_CMD_NOT_SUPPORT) may display. This indicates that the operation you requested is not supported. To resolve this, note the operations that produce this error.

Symptoms

You request a library operation, but the operation does not run. Instead, error 7144 (ERR_CMD_NOT_SUPPORT) displays.

Resolution

Error 7144 results from the media changer control interface. It indicates that the media changer does not support the operation you requested and produces the error. These operations include:

  • Initialize Element Status with Range (Optional in SMC-2)
  • Position to Element (Optional in SCSI-2)
  • Align (Vendor Unique; specific to the ADIC VLS series)
  • Ready Inport (Vendor Unique; specific to the ATL 2640 and DEC TL820 family)

Generally, these errors come from JItest, but also can be produced through DPX ui, Operate Tape Library.

Certain SCSI medium changers support vendor-unique commands for performing specialized operations. DPX tracks selected libraries and the operations they support. When a library does not support a requested operation, DPX displays error code 7144 (ERR_CMD_NOT_SUPPORT).

Should the error occur in the context of a backup, or  from the DPX ui, Operate Tape Library screen, please note the operations that produce the error and contact DPX Technical Support.
