Summary

For seeding on Linux, an image backup fails due to a non-logical volume management (LVM) device. To allow DPX to take a snapshot, the name of the LVM device must begin with /dev/mapper.

Symptoms

For SnapVault seeding on Linux, image backup fails and the job log displays:

192.168.73.15 ssndmpc Tue Aug 11 14:47:15 2009 SNBNCX6025J NDMP server entry: Type(NDMP_LOG_ERROR), ID(7048), Text(Snapshot of [//opt] failed. Exiting backup. [Cannot find LVM device name for ])

This indicates the device is a non-LVM device. For example, a device name that fails is /dev/evms/lvm2/suse10/opt.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, ensure the name of the LVM begins with /dev/mapper.
