Summary
This article describes the administrator procedure for importing and exporting tapes for disaster recovery purposes.
Resolution
1. Navigate to the DPX GUI, click on Control Devices > Devices.
2. Select the tape library and right click on it, then choose Operate Jukebox or pick Other Tasks > Operate Selected Jukebox.
3. When prompted, confirm update the Inventory in the Jukebox.
4. Wait for Operate Jukebox to completely load through the jukebox inventory process.
5. Export tapes with a media status of Full or Appendable in the desired media pool. You can sort this information by the column headings Media_Status and Media_Pool in the he tape library.
6. Export the tape from the tape library, in this example we'll export volser 00002.
a. Select the Export Tapes function task in the left frame.
b. Select as many Full or Appendable tapes as you have available Import/Export slots (in the middle right hand frame).
c. Select the available Import/Export tape slots in the middle right hand frame.
d. Click Go on the bottom left hand frame.
e. Once the tapes have been exported, go to the tape library and export the tape magazine for offsiting. Insert an empty tape cartridge magazine for importing.
f. Within the DPX GUI, select Refresh Import/Export Slots.
g. Repeat steps 6a - 6f until all Appendable and Full tapes are exported from the library and offsite these tapes.
7. Import tapes into the library that come from the offsite location. These tapes should have an Empty or Appendable status since Full tapes cannot be used for backups until the data has expired. You can determine tape status via Reports > Media Volume Report in the DPX GUI.
a. Select the Import Tapes function task in the left frame.
b. Select all of the tapes in the Import/Export slots (in the middle right hand frame).
c. Select empty tape slots to import the tape.
d. Select an empty tape slot.
e. Click Go on the bottom left hand frame.
f. Once the tapes have been imported, go to the tape library and import another tape magazine with tapes for importing (insert a full tape catridge magazine).
g. Within the DPX GUI, select Refresh Import/Export Slots.
h. Repeat steps 7a - 7f until all tape slots are filled in the tape library.
