Summary

When running a file backup on a Windows machine, not all of the files are backed up, and you cannot access them for a restore operation.

Symptoms

  • No error will appear in the backup job report in regards to these missing files.
  • The files are missing from the backup job instance in the managment console.

Resolution

A registry entry exists on all Windows servers at the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup

The FilesNotToBackup registry key specifies names of files and directories that a backup application should not backup or restore. DPX honors this registry key, and by default excludes those files from backup.

If an unwanted exclusion is set here, use the registry editor to remove that exclusion from the default registry setting.
