Summary
Perform the following procedure to apply a Change Journal (CJ) hotfix in Windows to fix a specific issue.
Symptoms
If a CJ related issue requires a software fix or hotfix, and that fix must be delivered between the scheduled patch release cycle, then Catalogic Software Technical Support may supply a hotfix.
Note: This process does not apply to software updates issued as part of a normal patch release. Use the auto-update process, as documented in the Installation Guide - Appendix A, to identify and apply those updates.
Resolution
There are three CJ components that may receive a hotfix update:
- CJ Driver
- CJ MiniFilter
- CJ JournalDLL
The support team instructs which components need to be updated, whether all or a subset of the three. Based on the instructions given by the support team, follow the applicable set of steps below.
Installing "CJ driver" in Windows:
- Copy the files supplied by Catalogic Software Technical Support to any folder on the local drive of the machine to be updated.
- Locate the WinCJInstall.cmd file, right-click it and select Run as administrator to start the installation process.
- A dialog box prompts the user to reboot the machine or skip the reboot. If additional component hotfixes will be installed below, you can skip the reboot until all are installed.
- You can select skip and not reboot the machine at this time, but the new driver will not be active until the machine reboots.
Installing "CJ MiniFilter" in Windows:
- Copy the files supplied by Catalogic Software Technical Support to any folder on the local drive of the machine to be updated.
- Locate the WinCJFilterInstall.cmd file, right-click it and select Run as administrator to start the installation process.
- A dialog box prompts the user to reboot the machine or skip the reboot. If additional component hotfixes will be installed below, you can skip the reboot until all are installed.
- You can select skip and not reboot the machine at this time, but the new driver will not be active until the machine reboots.
Installing "CJ JournalDLL" in Windows:
- Copy the files supplied by Catalogic Software Technical Support to any folder on the local drive of the machine to be updated.
- There are two files for the CJ JournalDLL: JournalCLI.exe and JournalDll.dll.
- Stop the DPX Communications Agent (CMAgent) and the DPX Advanced Protection Manager (nibbler) Windows services.
- Rename the current [DPX Directory]\tools\JournalCLI.exe to something else. Copy the new file to [DPX Directory]\tools\JournalCLI.exe
- Rename the current [DPX Directory]\bin\JournalDll.dll to something else. Copy the new file to [DPX Directory]\bin\JournalDll.dll
Reboot the machine to activate the hotfixes if you haven't done so as part of this procedure.
Note: If a CJ hotfix is applied as part of an open support case with Catalogic Software Technical Support, use the Windows Event Viewer on that machine after the reboot to save the Application and System logs as CSV files. Forward the saved CSV files to Technical Support for review.
