Summary

File level backup, restore, and block-level verification of a SQL 2012 Server requires sufficient privileges for a DPX CMAGENT service account.

Symptoms

File level backup, restore, and block-level verification of a SQL 2012 Server may report native SQL SMO errors.

Resolution

These issues can be generally resolved in DPX 4.2 by altering the Catalogic Software CMAGENT service.

The default installation for SQL 2012 standalone servers is to install the CMAGENT service as Local System Account. The configuration specifics in the KB articles referenced below can be avoided if the CMAGENT process is updated in the Log On tab to use a Windows account with sufficient permissions to access all resources on the machine, including local flis systems, and the SQL instance. This is typically the Administrator account or a Domain Administrator account with similar privileges.
