Using a Specific LIF IP Address for Windows Agent-Based Backup to cDOT

Summary

By enabling a client option in the Windows registry, you can force the NFS-based NOSB protocol Agent-Based DPX to use a specific IP address for data transfer to the cluster Data OnTap storage system.

Symptoms

Backup traffic not using the desired LIF on the cDOT storage system for Windows agent-based clients when using NetApp Open System Backup (NOSB).

Resolution

To force DPX traffic onto a specific LIF IP address on the cDOT storage system, a registry option on each Windows client must be specified.

Note that this only apply to backups using the NFS protocol available starting in DPX 4.4. This does not apply to backups that use the CIFS protocol which was available in DPX 4.3.3.
